LRN LogoLive Right Now is a 3 year old CBC initiative which utilizes its online community and gamifies user experience to reward engagement and better the lives of Canadians from coast to coast.LRN 3 HP

The initiative began in 2011 with Village on a Diet, which asked Canadians to commit to losing a collective of at least one million pounds. In six months the goal was exceeded by 600,000 pounds by making small changes in the way Canadians moved and ate. Dozens of communities came together via the online portal to take 92,000 challenges and build a national community around healthy lifestyles.

In 2012, with support from Loblaws, communities took part in Challenges via the digital portal and Facebook application. Edmunston, NB became the 1st Live Right Now Capital of Canada and won the grand prize of a $100,000 natural playground.

In 2013, in cooperation with Radio-Canada and with support from President’s Choice and Dairy Farmers of Canada, a responsively designed digital portal was built with an interactive, gamified application which rewarded users engagement with content. The initiative empowered users to leverage the digital tools available in order to eat together as a family. The goal is 100,000 check-ins, for every family meal check-in or pledged through the site, 4 plates of food would be donated to a family in need via Food Banks Canada.

In addition to tips & articles, recipes, tools, videos, images, the interactive application would allow users to build a meal plan from the recipe database (based on custom criteria), plan up to 7 days of meals for their family, print or email their weekly grocery list based on custom criteria, climb the leaderboard, and check-in to their family meals.
